The last several months have been a bit of a whirlwind. Last year I was flat on my back for most of October; November and December we did the last gigs we had on our commitments, and in January I had to go and establish a new revenue stream (i.e – a job).
Henry has taken a sabbatical, Glenn is in school right now, and I have taken a few steps back due to work and general health to figure where we go next with Surf Guitar Villains. We released a limited live EP on CD Baby at the end of last year, and I have been going over the stuff we as a band and I have recorded in the last 18 months.
Putting together a personal ‘bootleg’ 2 CD set, and listening to (and getting feedback on) what we have now, I am planning to do:
1) A short EP of the best of the current music; some clean-up of the material
2) A 10 year retrospective of SGV that will be called “Previously”
3) A new concept album that expands the sound of the SGV experience name is a TBD
(1) and (2) should be fairly straight forward to do, and should be out by July of 2010.
(3) Will be out when it is baked.
The new TBD CD I have already outlined, and have written two new pieces for, and will be re-doing some earlier recordings to fit with the theme rather than release them now. I am pulling back some of the tunes from the bootleg I originally wanted to release in (1), as they fit in the new TBD album theme.
What I am looking for with TBD is more diversity in the vocals, and more variation with the instruments – horns, accordion, keyboard, tubular bells – you get the idea J Some stuff needs more voices than mine – or voices other than mine. I am a song architect and guitar player – vocals I do out of necessity. I want to be true to our garage roots, but

While I am not proactively looking for band gigs for SGV – if someone should call for us for a gig, and we can all make it, great. My current plan of record is to work on the new TBD album, play some parts of it live acoustically at open mikes to get the songs to mature, and work on the recording and arrangements. Once this is baked, then I will resurrect SGV with an expanded band line-up, play the new material, and rejuvenated earlier works. That is the current plan.
